Beloved

What does it mean to truly be beloved? Not just loved in a passing or conditional sense, but chosen, pursued, and treasured by God in a way that reaches all the way into our flesh and bones? That is the question at the heart of this powerful message drawn from the letters of John. We explore the Greek word agapetos, meaning the object of God's chosen love, and discover that when John calls us beloved, he is declaring that we are the very ones God decided to love. This is not a love of feeling or convenience. It is a love of sacrifice and intention. The message also takes us into the theological battle of the early church, where a growing movement called Docetism threatened to strip the gospel of its most radical claim: that God actually entered human flesh in Jesus Christ. If we accept the lie that flesh is beneath God, we open a door to devaluing human bodies based on race, gender, or class. The Word becoming flesh, as John declares in his gospel, is not a footnote. It is the foundation. We are not just souls waiting to be rescued. We are temples. Our bodies are God's address. That truth alone has the power to reshape how we see ourselves and one another.
