Wedding FAQs

How do I schedule a wedding?

To schedule a date and time for your wedding, contactour Church Office Manager Janie Fishler at: 661-942-0419 or email lumc@lancasterunited.org.
She will be able to assist you with available wedding dates and put you in contact with our Wedding Director: Mary John.
Before a date and time can be confirmed, you will need to complete the Wedding Information Form either online or in our church office and an initial payment must be received by the church office.

What is included in a wedding service itself?

The wedding service includes processional music, the procession of Bride, Groom and wedding party.  The minister welcomes everyone and sets the stage by reminding all of the sacredness of the cermony and the powerful love of God that makes it all possible.
Prayers are shared, scripture is read, solos are sung (if requested) and the time is culminated with the exchange of vows, the sharing of rings, the pronouncement of marriage, and the wedding kiss.  A Unity Candle or other traditions may be included upon consultation with the minister.  Finally, the signing of the wedding license makes it all legal.

Can my wedding date be held on a tentative basis?

No. Wedding date availability is on a first-come basis.  Before a date and time can be confirmed, you will need to complete the Wedding Information Form online or in our church office and an initial payment must be received by the church office.

Yes. Officially ordained pastors of other recognized Christian denominations can officiate at a wedding held here. That pastor is required to contact one of our Lancaster United Methodist Church pastors first.  Approval for an outside pastor may then be granted.
Our pastor will then act as host to welcoming the wedding party and wedding guests and then turn the service over to the guest pastor for remainder of the service.

Do you do non-member weddings?

Yes. Our Lancaster UMC pastors will officiate,  All wedding couples (member, non-member, and off-site location) are required to take pre-marital education.

Is Pre-martial Education Required?

Yes. Couples are required to have 6 hours of pre-marital counseling.   This counseling includes a Saturday morning workshop session with a marriage and family therapist thorugh our Lancaster Christian Counseling Center and individual couple sessions with a member of the pastoral staff.
The cost of the pre-marital counseling, workshops and materials are included in the wedding fee.

Can I have a wedding reception elsewhere?
